Ottawa, Canada and San Francisco, CA - October 31, 2001 - Mitel Networks, a leading edge provider of IP communications solutions, and Indigo Software, a pioneer in the development of SIP-based network infrastructure, today announced successful interoperability at the desktop. The Mitel Networks 5055 SIP Phone demonstrated total interoperability with Indigo's SIP Proxy Server and received high marks in all categories during testing conducted at Technology Marketing Corporation's ConvergeNETTM event at the 2001 Internet Telephony Conference and Expo in San Diego, CA. The ConvergeNET platform provides the means to interface various gateways, gatekeepers, SIP Proxy servers and SIP end points to examine their degree of standards compliance and interoperability.
"Mitel Networks is leveraging a nearly 30-year pedigree of success at the desktop to deliver robust, feature-rich SIP devices and peripherals," said Ray Brown, Vice President, Portfolio Management, Mitel Networks. "Through the continued successful interoperability of the 5055 SIP Phone with such leading vendors as Indigo, Mitel is proving that it's poised for vanguard leadership in the delivery of SIP at the desktop."
Mitel Networks 5055 SIP Phone is the first member of Mitel's SIP desktop portfolio and is currently in field trials. The 5055 SIP Phone boasts the same voice quality, feature set and ergonomics of a Mitel Networks 5020 IP Phone and delivers further on a commitment to no-compromise IP-based devices at the desktop.
"A key value proposition of SIP is based around vendor interoperability, allowing enterprises to choose the components for a customized communications solution," said Ed Keegan, Head of Business Development, Indigo Software. "Through proving seamless interoperability at ConvergeNET, Mitel Networks has shown that it has the acumen to take advantage of the burgeoning opportunities presented by SIP delivery in the enterprise."
A flagship among the Indigo product suite, the award winning Indigo SIP Proxy ServerTM allows the negotiation, management and termination of real time, mixed-media sessions between any SIP entities. Based entirely on Java, the product supports cross-platform compatibility, ensures faster development and guarantees high-quality applications.
