Pingtel SIP Interoperability with Indigo Software Creates
Packet Voice Solution for Service Providers, Enterprises

WOBURN, MA and SAN FRANCISCO, CA - October 16, 2001 - PingtelTM today announced a SIP solutions partnership based on successful interoperability tests with Indigo Software, a leading software developer of SIP-based Internet communications infrastructure.

The partnership was solidified through a series of rigorous interoperability tests, including private lab tests at Pingtel and Indigo, at multiple SIP industry tests now known as SIPit, and at numerous media events, most recently the Network World-sponsored SIP interoperability tests performed by Miercom, Princeton Junction, N.J.

The partnership is designed to ensure product interoperability between Pingtel, creator of the Java and SIP based voice-over-IP (VoIP) phone, Pingtel xpressaTM, and Indigo Software's Java-based product suite consisting of a tight ensemble of SIP servers - Proxy, Registrar, Redirect, Location and CPL (Call Processing Language) - end user products such as the Indigo CPL EditorTM, which allows self-configuration of communications services, and the Indigo PIM (Presence and Instant Messaging) ClientTM.

"The partnership between Pingtel and Indigo represents a high degree of interoperability among leading vendors in the packet voice market," said Jay Batson, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder, Pingtel. "With both of us combining Java technologies and SIP communications, Pingtel and Indigo give service providers and enterprises new options for IP telephony."

"This strategic partnership leverages both companies' common focus on Java-based, SIP network components and allows us to offer our harmonized solutions for IP communications on a joint basis to service providers in the U.S. and Europe," said Emmanuel Bertrand, CEO and CTO of Indigo Software. "The Java plus SIP revolution allows both Pingtel and Indigo to reach the edge and make legacy telephony in the enterprise obsolete."

The Pingtel xpressa phone and Indigo Software proxy server solutions share the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) for IP voice services and applications, creating a new, immediately deployable SIP solution. SIP was approved by the IETF in 1999 and is rapidly becoming the de facto protocol standard for IP telephony over alternative protocols, such as H.323, MGCP, Megaco and Cisco's Skinny Client Control Protocol. IP telephony vendors, service providers and enterprises are building new products and services based on SIP because it enables innovation, scalability, ease of deployment and manageability not possible with the other protocols.

Pingtel xpressa, the world's first intelligent, Java-based IP phone, is a limitless platform for voice service providers, nearly all of which are preparing to deliver next-generation hosted IP voice services, such as IP Centex, unified messaging, instant conferencing, presence, and instant messaging. The key to this innovation in applications and services is Pingtel xpressa, the only IP phone that offers the capability for third-party developers to add unique features or applications via a Java software development kit that runs on the phone.
