PHOENIX, AZ - March 21, 2001 - Today at Pulver.com's Voice on the Net (VON), Indigo Software announced its commitment to the CommWorks® Compatible program for IP telephony vendors. The program is an initiative from CommWorks Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of 3Com Corporation (NASDAQ: COMS) and a leading provider of carrier-class IP telephony equipment.
The program showcases IP telephony vendor solutions that are technically compliant with the CommWorks architecture, the company's flexible, open system for the delivery of enhanced voice and data services through dial, wireless, broadband and narrowband access.
CommWorks IP telephony deployments are carrying more than 230 million minutes of voice traffic per month for service providers in North America, Europe and Asia, and have now exceeded 1.3 billion minutes of total voice traffic worldwide. These service providers use the IP telephony solution from CommWorks to offload voice traffic from the circuit-switched public switched telephone network (PSTN) to more efficient IP networks, and to introduce new and enhanced telephony services to their customers.
Ten leading providers of hardware and software for the IP telephony market will participate in the first round of CommWorks Compatible testing. These companies include Convedia Corporation; HearMe; Indigo Software; Mediatrix Telecom, Inc.; NextTone Communications; Pingtel; 3Com Corporation; Ubiquity Software Corporation; VegaStream, Ltd.; and Voyant Technologies, Inc.
"At Indigo and CommWorks we share a similar vision of a new communications network. This cooperation will allow a faster time to market for a myriad of new SIP-based applications," said Emmanuel Bertrand, CEO and CTO of Indigo Software.
"Interworking and mediation among products and technologies is essential for the widespread deployment and acceptance of IP telephony," said Irfan Ali, president, CommWorks Corporation. "The CommWorks Compatible program targets technical compliance among vendors as a critical component in ensuring the success of IP telephony and in building a new class of telecommunication services."
"A program of this magnitude and scope will allow us to guarantee interoperability between leading vendors and thus lend confidence to the market for our SIP products," added Edward Keegan, Head of Business Development at Indigo Software.
The CommWorks Compatible program includes two levels of testing. Components Testing (Level 1) assures that products are functionally and technically compatible with CommWorks products. Solutions Testing (Level 2) testing assures that the products properly operate as part of a system of specified products from CommWorks and third-parties to perform a specific function or address a specific business need.
