Indigo Software Announces Successful Participation in 5th SIP Bake-Off

SIP Industry Maintains Momentum with Concrete Achievements during Interoperability Tests

MELVILLE, NY, August 14, 2000 - By now almost legendary among the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) community, the Bake-Off tradition continued last week with the successful conclusion of the 5th SIP Bake-Off, hosted by Pulver.com in Melville, New York, compounding the achievements of the previous four events.

Having become a proposed standard of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) in 1999, SIP is a powerful yet simple protocol used to establish and manage Internet telephony sessions. As it solves the problems and limitations of previous Voice-over-IP pseudo-standards, SIP is now confirmed as the protocol of choice for deploying genuinely integrated Internet communications services.

Bake-Offs, held to ensure interoperability of SIP hardware and software implementations, allow the SIP community to conduct testing in a convivial and supportive environment in order to speed up the delivery of next-generation communications services. These test sessions capitalize on the wealth of experience gained from earlier events and generate discussion among teams to iron out any implementation or specification problems that might surface.

" The significantly increased number of participants at this Bake-Off, among them vendors and members of the academic and scientific communities, testifies to the growing interest in and industry-wide acceptance of SIP and gives participants the opportunity to conduct larger scale testing of their products, " stated Emmanuel Bertrand, CEO and CTO of Indigo Software. " We really feel confident having successfully tested Indigo's advanced implementations with other leading developers during the three days of trials."

" The cumulative knowledge of the Bake-Offs is of paramount importance to the Internet telephony industry and although demanding work, these events underline the inherent simplicity and ease of interoperability of SIP implementations, " added Nicolas Zastavni, Head Software Engineer at Indigo Software.

Focusing exclusively on SIP development, Indigo Software will continue to carry out Beta trials in Fall.
